Town Hall Meeting 4/4/17 @ 7pm

WHAT’S YOUR ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT?

*UPDATE: if you attended this workshop and want to stay connected with a group of people who are all working to reduce their footprint, check out the newly created facebook group, NELAZeroWaste, and also check out the page with lots more info about this event and the topic of reducing here (incl. the digital handout full of links).

You’ve heard it before, REDUCE > REUSE > RECYCLE, but how much thought have you given it? This month’s Town Hall is a chance for you to really think about the blind spots in your use of things that come from earth’s limited resources.  If you think you’re really on top of it because your recycling bin is overflowing while your trash can is nearly empty, this event is going to challenge you to think again.  REDUCE is the first R, because it’s the most important, and REUSE still comes before RECYCLE.  At this event you’ll learn a lot more about what happens to stuff after you’re done with it, and what impact that has on the planet.  Then we’ll brainstorm together to set the wheels in motion on the systems and lifestyle approaches to using less and having a smaller ecological footprint.  Developing new habits is a gradual process, but most of the best habits take little effort, and many actually make life easier and less expensive.  You’ll hopefully take away a new awareness that will help you align your impact with your intentions and start you on a lifelong process of simplifying and reducing.

Dog Walk Day 4/8/17 @ 10am

Let’s show up & demonstrate how numerous are Glassell Park’s pup residents and, by extension, how great the need for our own dog park!  (You can sign the petition here.)

Walking, romping, playing, barking, free shade tree giveaways, a doggie costume contest, free dog food, pet fair (featuring NELA’s best pet businesses! see list below!), music, games, food, and so many activities!  It’s going to be such a fun morning for pups and their humans alike.  A section of Verdugo Rd will be closed, so think of it like a great big pup block party.

**NOTE: date has changed; update your calendars!**

Pet Fair!: Sample NELA’s best pet businesses!

Affordable Animal Hospital, ASPCA, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, LADWP’s City Plants Program, Erica Lake Dog Training, Glassell Park Early Education Center, Home Dog LA, Homes Fur All, Karma Rescue, K9 Youth Alliance, Los Feliz Charter School for the Arts, Monster Tacos, My Dog Spot (dog walking), NELA GreenSpace, No Tox Life, Operation Blankets of Love, Sotomayor School of History & Dramatic Arts (SoHDA), Pardon the Pups, Rock Dog & Cat, TreePeople, The Urban Pet, Uptown Gay & Lesbian Alliance, and Wagville

“Super Adoption” Pet Fair 3/11/17 @ 10am

We’re hosting a “Super Adoption” Pet Fair at the Community Center this Saturday!

The Best Friends Animal Society, Pardon the Pups, and the ASPCA will be providing FREE adoptions.  The Amanda Foundation will be present so you can register for free spay/neuter services—subject to income verification—to be performed the following day (Sunday the 12th).  They will also be offering low-cost vaccinations!  Glassell Park’s newest business, the Affordable Animal Hospital on Eagle Rock Blvd, will also be joining us alongside Home Dog LA.  Not a bad way to spend a Saturday morning!
